New boom in organic farming in Poland

After a seven-fold increase between 2004 and 2013, organic farming (number of farms, areas) in Poland stagnated and then declined. But the situation has improved and a new boom
occurred.

According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, in 2021 the number of organic farms in Poland was around 20,000. This is an increase of +7.6% compared to the previous year when only 18,600 organic farms were counted.

More than half (58%) of all organic farms in the country are concentrated in 4 regions: WarmiƄsko-Mazurskie (17.3% of all organic farms), Podlasie (16.9%), Zachodniopomorskie (12.1 %) and Mazowieckie (11.6%).

In 2021, the area of land intended for organic farming reached 549,000 hectares, i.e. +7.9% compared to the 509,000 hectares recorded the previous year. And represented 5% of the entire agricultural area (3.5% in 2020).
