A 12% increase in the total area harvested as well as optimal weather conditions allow forecasting an increase in production and an increase in exports.
A recent GAIN report issued by the FAS of USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, forecasts that in the 2022/23 marketing year Egyptian orange production will reach 3.6 million tons, or +20% compared to the previous campaign.
This increase in production results from the 12% increase in the total area harvested, which reached 151,200 hectares for this campaign. As well as optimal weather conditions and temperatures during flowering which increased fruit set and production. Domestic consumption of fresh oranges is expected to grow by around 14.3% to reach 1.6 million tonnes.
For this 2022/23 marketing campaign, orange exports should reach 1.7 million tonnes, or +30.7% compared to the previous campaign. Due to higher production and the opening of new markets for Egyptian oranges.
The top 10 destinations for fresh Egyptian oranges are expected to remain Russia, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, India, the United Arab Emirates, China, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and the Sultanate of Oman.
