Africa was an important theme at Macfrut 2022. One of the most important delegations from the African continent was Senegal. The show made it possible to present the diversity of Senegalese products and to establish commercial and technological exchanges with the aim of improving production and export.
At Macfrut 2022, the Senegalese delegation included: several companies, 3 interprofessional organizations in the sector (mango, cashew, carrot), the Horticulture Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Origine Senegal Foundation, which aims to promote Senegalese products in the world.
The show was an opportunity for Senegalese participants to interact with international operators and present a rich range of fruits and vegetables. The volume exported in 2021 by Senegal totaled 117,000 tonnes, divided into 15 products, of which the mango is in the leading group of exports.
The exchanges also concerned investment opportunities in horticulture in Senegal and more particularly on the construction of storage and conservation infrastructure (cold rooms, etc.) and agro-food processing (tomato, mango, onions, etc...). As well as innovations and technology, with the aim of improving horticultural practices and irrigation systems to save water resources.
AICS (Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo), with projects funded by PAIS (Programma Agricolo Italia Senegal) and PIESAN (Progetto d’Intensificazione Eco Sostenibile dell’Agricoltura nelle Niayes), also participated alongside its Senegalese partners.
