Tunisia bans exports of 4 fresh vegetables

In order to combat the shortage of products and soaring prices on the national market, the authorities have just decided to temporarily ban the export of 4 fresh vegetables to all foreign destinations.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, the increase in food prices has fluctuated between 5% and 62% compared to the same period last year. On the national market, some products are rare due to the time of year which sees the change of seasons and therefore a scarcity of fresh products. To this 'low' period for production is added this year the strong demand, since the beginning of April, linked to Ramadan.

With the aim of restoring the balance between supply and demand on the national market, the authorities have decided on a temporary ban on the export of 4 fresh vegetables: peppers, tomatoes, onions and potatoes.

For Tunisia, the Libyan market is the No. 1 market for its agricultural products, with around 60% of total Tunisian exports of fruits and vegetables, which are mainly exported by land.
