Russia to increase quota for Turkish tomato imports
Currently Turkiye is allowed to export up to 300,000 tons of tomatoes to Russia, but this volume will be increased.
According to Turkish media reports, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a new project concerning the import of tomatoes from Turkiye and Interfax, the Russian news agency, has announced that the import quota for tomatoes from Turkiye could be increased to 350,000 tonnes.
This is an increase of 50,000 tonnes compared to the 300,000 tonnes currently authorised. Russia initially set the quota at 200,000 tonnes in February 2020, then increased it to 250,000 tonnes in January 2021 and then to 300,000 tonnes in April 2021.
Turkiye exported around 623,000 tonnes of tomatoes in 2021 with a turnover of USD 363 million. About half of these exports were to Russia.
