Satisfactory results for the Madagascar lychee marketing year

The 2021/22 lychee marketing year in Madagascar has just ended and the results are satisfactory.

According to data from the CTHT (Horticultural Technical Centre of Tamatave) for this 2021/22 season, the volume exported to European markets reached 14,570 tonnes of lychees shipped by sea and 200 tonnes of lychees shipped by air.

This is a slightly higher overall volume than the 14 240 tonnes by sea and 240 tonnes by air shipped during the 2020/21 season.

For this 2021/22 season, the fruit benefited from a good early harvest, satisfactory quality and flawless logistics which favoured marketing. Although the marketing period was more concentrated, demand remained solid. Prices fell back slightly but remained at a fair level for good quality fruit.
