Russian demand picks up for fruit and vegetables from Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani exports to Russia increased significantly from January to early November 2021, due to various measures in the field of phytosanitary control that were taken in Azerbaijan.
 
Goshgar Takhmazli, president of the Azerbaijani Food Safety Agency, at a press conference said that exports to Russia have increased significantly over the period from January 1 to November 9, 2021: persimmons + 46%, potatoes + 23%, cucumbers and pickles + 35%, peaches and nectarines + 182%, watermelons + 144%, grapes + 178%, plums + 33%, pomegranates + 17% and strawberries + 117%.
 
Regarding apples, Russia imports fruit from 70 Azerbaijani companies which plan to ship 153,397 tons of their products by the end of 2021, according to statements by Goshgar Takhmazli who clarified that these exports to the Russia will represent in volume + 229% compared to last year.
 
Regarding tomatoes, 204 Azerbaijani companies and 1 agricultural cooperative have been authorized to export to Russia which has already received 119,000 tons of tomatoes.
 
In December 2020 Russia had stopped its imports of Azerbaijani tomatoes and apples. The measures taken in Azerbaijan, the cooperation between the surveillance bodies of the 2 countries and the various phytosanitary controls have enabled Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian surveillance body, to authorize a resumption of imports since June 15, 2021.
