The progress is noticeable but less important than what the forecasts indicated. In the last Iranian calendar year which ended on March 20, 2021, Iran exported 884,798 tons of apples to 27 countries.

 

In Iran in calendar year 2019/20 apple exports reached 740,000 tonnes, forecast for calendar year 2020/21 indicated 1.3 million tonnes. But this volume was not realized. For the calendar year 2020/21 according to the spokesperson of IRICA, the Customs Administration, Iran exported 884,798 tons of apples, or + 19.56% compared to the previous year.

 

In value these exports generated 326.668 million USD. Iranian apples were shipped to 27 countries and the top 5 destinations were Iraq (105 million USD), Russia (95.4 million USD), Afghanistan (51.7 million USD), India (26 , 6 million USD) and the United Arab Emirates (21.1 million USD).

 

Exports to India registered the largest increase among all other countries. The volume exported to India exceeded 400,000 tonnes, which is double the volume shipped in the year 2019/20.

 

This year, during the 1st quarter of the Iranian calendar year (March 21-June 21), apple exports reached 207,257 tons with a value of 62.587 million USD.

 

In Iran, the cultivated area of apples is around 250,000 hectares and production is estimated at around 4 million tonnes per year. The main apple producing regions are Urmia, Mashhad, Damavand, Semirom, Shemiran, Azerbaijan.
