According to the report of the CTHT (Center Technique Horticole de Tamatave) which observes the fruiting of lychees in the country, the official date of the start of the 2021 campaign should be at the end of week 45 (8-13 November) beginning of week 46 (15-20 Nov).

 

The 2021 campaign would thus be as early as the 2020 campaign which began on November 13. CTHT should carry out additional prospecting over the next few days to refine the date.

 

The favorable climatic conditions since the beginning of August, the regular and more important rainfall this year have favored the development of the fruits. Fruit size is expected to be larger than seen in 2020.

 

The CTHT (Center Technique Horticole de Tamatave) has set up a monitoring system and carries out periodic surveys in the main production areas. The observations and measurements carried out (fruit development, volumes, quality, etc.) make it possible to provide players in the lychee sector with details on the optimal harvest period, volumes and fruit quality.

 

Madagascar is the 3rd largest producer in the world behind China and India and the 1st supplier to the European market where its main competitors are South Africa, Réunion, Mauritius and Mozambique.
