British imports of fresh produce from Morocco grew by + 51% in January 2021 compared to January 2020. According to a British politician, Morocco could quickly overtake Spain and the Netherlands as the No.1 supplier of fresh produce.
British politician Robert Kimbell recently indicated in a Twitter post that the UK currently buys around 6% of total Moroccan exports. And according to him, the figure could be higher in the coming months, thanks in particular to the new Tangier-Poole maritime link which will soon be operational.
Data released by HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) indicated that UK imports of fresh produce from Morocco grew by + 51% in January 2021 to 30,648 tonnes, compared to January 2020 (20,236 tonnes). That same month of January 2021, Morocco overtook the Netherlands, which exported to the United Kingdom only 25,495 tonnes.
According to Robert Kimbell’s forecasts, it is only a matter of time for Morocco to overtake Spain and the Netherlands to become the UK’s No.1 supplier of fresh produce.
