Cameroon's banana exports are trending
A positive start to the year for Cameroon, which recorded an increase in its banana exports. With a remarkable growth rate of + 31.17% for the month of March 2021.
According to data from Assobacam (Banana Association of Cameroon), during the 1st quarter of 2021 the country exported 54,900 tonnes of bananas. This represents an increase compared to the 49,818 tonnes exported during the 1st quarter of 2020. And for the month of March alone, with 20,184 tonnes, an increase of + 31.17%.
All the structures operating in Cameroon are making progress. PHP (Plantations du haut Penja), a subsidiary of the Compagnie fruitière de Marseille but also Cameroon Development Corporation which has resumed its activities as well as Boh Plantations Plc. According to industry professionals, this increase in exported volumes is the result of favorable rainfall which has boosted production.
This upward trend is expected to continue in the second quarter. According to recent national forecasts, the volume of bananas is expected to increase in all production areas of the country between April and June.
