Excellent season for grapes from Namibia
In Namibia the grape season has far exceeded expectations, exports will bring in around 1 billion Namibian dollars (67.1 million USD)
According to NGGA (Namibian Grape Growers Association) the 2020/21 Namibian table grape season has seen an increase of + 12% compared to the initial estimate. While 7.6 million boxes of 4.5 kg or 34,200 tonnes were forecast, exports totaled 8.6 million boxes of 4.5 kg or 38,700 tonnes. Revenues reach 1 billion NAD (67.1 million USD).
In the previous season, Namibia had shipped 33,000 tonnes of table grapes valued at approximately NAD 840 million (USD 56.4 million).
In Namibia the grape season runs from November to January, but cooler conditions in August and September have delayed the season. A season which then saw ideal climatic conditions for an excellent quality production.
The main destinations for Namibian grapes are Europe, UK, Middle East, Africa and North America. NGGA is planning other developments for the sector, notably with new varieties of grapes and the conquest of new markets.
