Tanzania plans 90% increase in grape production

After registering an increase in volume of 55% in a few years, Tanzania forecasts a further increase in volumes of 90% for its grape production.

In Tanzania the Ministry of Agriculture, during an intervention at the national assembly, specified that the country had produced 7,527 tonnes of grapes during the 2013/14 season then 16,139 tonnes during the 2018/19 campaign, so an increase of 55% in volumes.

The government's production plan is expected to reach 22,000 tonnes for the 2024/25 season, so a further 90% increase in volumes.

In the previous season about 7,551 tonnes were sold to local processing plants for wine making and 2,205 tonnes were sold to the retail market. And 1,796 tonnes were exported to Kenya.

According to the Minister, research and exploration of new markets for the shipment of grapes will continue, particularly in neighboring countries.
