Cameroonian exports back on the rise

Banana exports have reversed the trend observed in the first quarter of 2020. After declining over the period and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, exports are starting to rise again.

According to data from Assobacam (Cameroonian Banana Association) exports totaled 16,102 tonnes in April 2020, compared to only 13,381 tonnes in April 2019.

The increase in exported volumes was driven by the increase in shipments from PHP (a local subsidiary of Compagnie fruitière based in Marseille, France), whose shipments increased to 14,965 tonnes in April. As well as by the company Boh Plantations which exported 1,137 tonnes of bananas that same month.

This increase in volumes can be explained by much more favorable climatic conditions after a first quarter marked by a dry period.
