One month ahead to resume avocado exports to Kenya

In Kenya the decision to ban avocado exports was made last November. The embargo was to be lifted on March 15 for the Fuerte variety and on April 15 for the Hass variety.

But at the beginning of February, the horticulture management announced that the ban would be lifted one month earlier after the reassessment of maturity. Indeed because of the variable temperatures and the impacts of climate change, the fruits reached their maturity earlier.

A first shipment has just left the country for Europe. Kenyan professionals note a strong demand for this Fuerte variety for which the country is the only current supplier on a global scale. The avocados will be exported to Spain, Germany, Russia and countries in the Middle East.
