How companies manage sustainability? Halls International shows an example
More and more companies consider sustainability as a fundamental part in a wide range of areas, including new-product development, reputation building, and overall corporate strategy but only around 30 percent of executives say their companies actively seek opportunities to invest in sustainability. Fructidor asked “what sustainability means for Halls, one of the world's leading producers and marketers of avocados?”
“With sustainability being so critical for the survival of our planet and longevity of the agricultural industry, we aim for the Halls brand to be fully aligned with the term “sustainability” through all of our initiatives. We have developed a sustainability strategy with specific targets for the short, medium and long-term”. - explains Tracey Davies-CEO of Halls. “We have launched our “every drop of our water matters” campaign through video infographics to talk about feasible and practical water sustainability initiatives. In addition to this, we have embarked in biodiversity projects from our insect populations to the foliage that supports them. Our living soils is a part of our farming practices that will gain much more momentum in 2020. We have also implemented several reuse and recycle initiatives within our offices.
In addition to this, we will be adapting the use of drone flights which allows for assessment and monitoring of tree health status and upgrading our canal systems which will help in eliminating any current and future leaks and seepage on waterway systems. With upgrades to the company such as the installation of an Aweta machine in our South African packhouse, the establishment of a new marketing office in China and Team Q to ensure our customers get the best quality avocados, Halls understands what it means to be your trusted partner for the long-term”
“We look forward to meeting our customers and grower partners, as well as establishing new working relationships with potential customers and growers at the upcoming Fruit Logistica 2020 in Berlin. Long term sustainability is not only our legacy it is a part of our DNA and an integral part of our brand” says Leigh Green, Marketing Manager at Halls.
