A report by SEDA (Saudi Exports Development Authority) indicated that exports of Saudi dates recorded in the first half of 2019 an increase of 27% in value compared to the previous year. For this first half of 2019 the value reached SR 574 million ($ 153 million). Date exports in 2018 totaled SR 758 million ($ 202 million) and volumes exceeded 163,000 tonnes.

According to marketers, the Saudi sector could further expand its reach in international markets. The global demand is growing for dates which have recognized nutritional values. Current exports are destined for around sixty countries in the world, but significant potential exists for 23 additional destinations which represent the most promising markets.
