Tunisia forecasts weaker citrus production this year

Tunisian citrus production is estimated to be 16.8% lower for the 2019/20 crop than it was last year.

At a press conference, Agriculture Minister Samir Taieb estimated citrus production for the 2019/20 season at 366,000 tons, about 16.8 percent less than the 440,000 tons produced last season.

This decline in production is due to abnormally high temperatures during the fruit growing season, which caused their fall.

On the other hand, professionals expect an improvement in the size of Maltese oranges compared to the previous season. Maltese oranges account for about 30% of the total citrus volume.
