In Madagascar the 2019 litchis campaign has just started since November 17th, for the Antsinanana and Analanjirofo regions.

 

 

The start date of the season is decided after the meeting of various stakeholders from the sector including an interministerial committee and sector's operators.

 

 

 

According to estimates for this new crop, production could total 100 000 tonnes of which 80 000 tonnes are from the Antsinanana region. Litchi exports are expected to reach 17,000 tons this year, a volume close to 18,000 tons exported last year.

 

 

 

The main litchis market in Madagascar is Europe, which receives 70% of Malagasy exports. This year the boats carrying the fruit should make the trip in 21 days, instead of 45 days in the past.

 

 

 

Madagascar is the world's 3rd largest producer of lychees after China and India.
