Expected progress for stone fruit production

According to HORTGRO's forecasts for the stone fruit season in South Africa, volumes will be up by 17% for nectarines, 6% for peaches and 15% for plums.
 
 
 
Compared to last year, volumes produced by South Africa will be higher for nectarines, peaches and plums. Only the volume of apricots will be down 5% due to drought and reduced areas.
 
 
 
According to HORTGRO estimates, nectarines are expected to grow from 4 million cartons (2.5kg) last year to nearly 4.7 million cartons. Peaches from 1.835 million boxes (2.5 kg) to 1.937 million boxes. The plums of 8.790 million boxes (5.25 kg) to 10,152 million boxes. Apricots are expected to grow from 574,935 boxes (4.75kg) produced last year to 543,533 boxes this year.
