Jordan observes a drop in its exports

Disappointment among Jordanian producers and exporters who expected to resume their positions as major suppliers to the Iraqi market. Their exports to Iraq have decreased.

Iraq was one of the biggest export markets for Jordan's products. Then the war led to the closing of the borders, which reopened after the signing of two agreements between the two countries in November 2018. The Jordanian professionals thought that the exchanges would return to previous volumes.

But Jordanian professionals are finding that Iraq's demand for their products has not resumed. The Jordan Association of Exporters and Producers of Fruits & Vegetables estimates that exports to Iraq have decreased by at least 40% compared to last year.

For the association of Jordanian truckers the report is identical. While thinking they were transporting large volumes to Iraq, they find that Jordanian products have only a small share of the Iraqi market that is mainly served by trucks carrying products from Syria and Iran.
