Good news for the Moroccan berry industry, the US Department of Agriculture has made the decision to allow imports of fresh raspberries from Morocco.
After several years of negotiations, USDA the US Department of Agriculture announced on July 24 its decision to authorize the import of Moroccan fresh raspberries. Imports in the United States of Moroccan raspberries can start immediately.
Each batch of raspberries must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by Onssa (National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products) together with a declaration stating that these fruits have been produced in accordance with the requirements of the USA and that they have been inspected before the export in Morocco.
According to USDA, Morocco is expected to export between 200 and 500 tons of raspberries each year. A quantity representing about 0.4 to 0.9% of American raspberries imports.
