A decline despite the increase in volumes
In Cameroon, banana exports recorded a month-on-month increase in volumes, but a marked decline compared to the average of the first quarter.
According to statistics published by ASSOBACAM (Banana Association of Cameroon) exports in May 2019 totaled 16 135 tonnes.
The volumes exported last month are thus higher than the 13,381 tonnes shipped in April 2019 but well below the 20,987 tonnes of the monthly average recorded during the first quarter of 2019.
Bananas exported in May come from PHP (Plantations du Haut Penja), a local subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille, which exported 14,639 tonnes of bananas and Boh Plantations, which exported 1,496 tonnes.
